This paper presents a wireless meter reading system that utilizes the SIM100 GPRS module and the LR100 control processing unit to enable efficient data transmission and intelligent management of power meters. By leveraging the GPRS network, the system ensures reliable communication between the meters and the central server, while GSM is used as a backup channel to mitigate issues such as data loss or delays caused by unstable network conditions. The adoption of GPRS technology in industrial applications offers a cost-effective and widely accessible solution for smart metering systems. Compared to traditional private networks, GPRS provides broader coverage and lower operational costs, making it ideal for large-scale deployment. This paper introduces a specific implementation plan using the SIM100 wireless transmission module and the Wuhan Lanrui LR100 control module, tailored for power meter reading applications. The system design focuses on meeting the communication needs between the meter and the meter reading server. Both the meter and the server operate in a limited transparent transmission mode, where the LR100 module filters and analyzes incoming data to reduce redundancy and accurately identify command signals. Communication is established through the SIMCOM SIM100 module via a mobile gateway, supporting both TCP/IP and UDP/IP protocols for flexible data exchange. A fault-tolerant mechanism based on the LR100 module and a GSM alternate channel ensures continuous operation even when the GPRS connection is unstable. Hardware Implementation 1. LR100 Module The LR100 module is responsible for data transmission and intelligent control of the meter. It receives data from the server through the data transmission module, processes it, and sends query commands to the meter via the RS485 interface. It also controls the meter’s I/O ports to execute control commands. Once the meter responds with the required information, the LR100 module processes the data according to pre-set parameters and transmits the relevant data back to the server. Additionally, it performs intelligent alarm and control actions based on the meter's feedback. 2. Three Serial Port Assignments Serial Port 1 is used for parameter configuration. It communicates with PC-based configuration software to set up key system parameters such as the IP address, port number, and communication protocol (TCP or UDP) of the meter reading server, ensuring proper initialization of the LR100 system software. Serial Port 2 connects to the SIM100 GPRS module, enabling communication via standard AT commands and extended commands. The module is linked to the LR100 expansion board, allowing data transmission and reception over GPRS or SMS, depending on the application requirements. Serial Port 3 is dedicated to RS232/RS485 communication, facilitating data exchange between the system and the meter. It ensures real-time data response from the terminal device, enhancing the overall performance of the meter reading system. 3. GPIO Interface The GPIO (General Purpose Input/Output) interface allows for intelligent control of the meter, including functions like alarms and power-off operations. By controlling the intermediate circuit, the system can perform various intelligent tasks efficiently. Due to its rich pin count and ease of programming, the GPIO interface supports future system expansion and customization, making it a versatile component in the design. 0.5Mm Ffc & Fpc,0.5Mm Pitch Fpc Connector,Bottom Contact Style Fpc Connector,Pcb Connection Connector Dongguan City Yuanyue Electronics Co.Ltd , https://www.yyeconn.com
