Love HIFI old burning secret: how to improve HIFI sound effect

The old man in the circle always said that a burning door is like the sea. After playing with audio equipment for over a decade, I’ve learned countless valuable lessons, and I’ve come to understand that while expensive gear may seem impressive, it’s not always the best choice. Many of the so-called “high-end” speakers—whether priced at a few thousand or just a few hundred yuan—are nothing more than marketing hype. Even high-priced systems won’t deliver great sound without a good front end, cables, and proper setup. The higher the price, the greater the demands on the entire system.

I believe the most enjoyable and versatile range is between 5,000 to 10,000 yuan. Recently, I started using a set of near-field monitor speakers called Tianxian UE from the HIFI Audio Network. These speakers are incredibly playable and flexible, and I’m excited to share my experience with you.

What is a Near-Field Monitor?

Monitor speakers are typically used by engineers and sound controllers to accurately hear what’s being recorded or mixed. They are known for their low distortion, wide frequency response, and flat sound reproduction, meaning they don’t alter the original signal much. This allows them to reproduce the truest form of the audio content. There are three types of monitors: near-field, mid-field, and far-field, based on how close the listener is to the speakers.

Near-field monitors are placed close to the listener—usually about 1 to 2 meters away. They are commonly used in small studios and personal setups due to their compact size. While large studios may use mid- or far-field monitors, near-field models are still valuable for checking sound compatibility. Their close placement reduces the impact of room reflections, resulting in a more accurate sound. In recording engineering, near-field monitors have become an essential tool for mixing and mastering.

Due to their fast transient response and compact design, near-field monitors excel at reproducing detailed and natural sounds, especially in genres like classical music, vocals, and strings. That’s why many manufacturers are now promoting them for civilian use, and Tianxian UE is a perfect example.

Enhancing the Experience:

1. Shock Absorption: To reduce resonance and improve clarity, especially in the low frequencies, I used a tripod and foot nails instead of placing the speakers directly on a table or TV cabinet. The difference was immediately noticeable. When listening to Zhao Peng’s "Boat Song," the drums were more stable and precise after using the shock-absorbing setup.

2. Speaker Positioning: Proper placement is crucial. Many people place their speakers incorrectly at home, which can lead to a distorted listening experience. I followed the internal axis measurement method, positioning the speakers at 45 degrees from the central listening point. This created a wider and more immersive sound field.

3. Sound Source: The quality of your source material matters. Using a lossless player instead of a phone or computer can make a big difference. With Tianxian UE, the detail and clarity are significantly better when using a high-quality player.

4. Power Amplifier: Choosing the right amplifier is key. I opted for the TANKE M5, which offers both warmth and clarity. It pairs perfectly with the Tianxian UE, delivering a realistic and dynamic listening experience.

Final Evaluation:

The first track I played was “Mountain Flow.” From the deep bass to the high notes, the sound was smooth, rich, and full of life. Every detail, from the subtle finger movements to the breaths, was clearly audible. It felt like candlelight in the night, the bright moon in the sky, or the morning dew—comforting and real.

The next track was “Yesterday Once More.” The mid-range was clear and well-defined, with a soft yet powerful female voice. The spatial imaging was excellent, creating a natural and immersive listening environment. The Tianxian UE delivered a balanced and complete performance across all frequencies.

Conclusion:

In my opinion, a great speaker system should be affordable, easy to upgrade, and highly playable. The Tianxian UE paired with the TANKE M5 and QA360 has exceeded my expectations. As the saying goes, “There are no ugly women, only lazy ones.” Similarly, with the right attention to detail, anyone can enjoy excellent sound. Just take the time to fine-tune your setup, and you’ll be rewarded with a truly immersive listening experience!
