On December 12, 2013, Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) introduced a new line of dual-chip 40V N-Channel TrenchFET power MOSFETs — SQJ940EP and SQJ942EP — utilizing an asymmetric PowerPAK SO-8L package that is AEC-Q101 certified. These devices are designed for automotive applications and integrate both high-side and low-side MOSFETs into a compact 5mm x 6mm package, offering significant space savings compared to traditional discrete solutions.

The low-side MOSFET in these devices features a remarkably low on-resistance of 6.4mΩ, making them ideal for high-efficiency synchronous DC/DC buck converters. This innovation marks the industry's first automotive-certified two-chip MOSFET with an asymmetric design, which helps reduce conduction losses and allows for a larger low-side MOSFET structure. Operating at temperatures up to +175°C, these MOSFETs deliver the reliability and durability needed for demanding automotive environments, particularly in in-vehicle communication and entertainment systems like radios and GPS units.

The SQJ940EP and SQJ942EP give designers flexibility by allowing different on-resistance values. At 10V, the SQJ940EP’s low-side MOSFET has a maximum on-resistance of 6.4mΩ, while the high-side MOSFET has an on-resistance of 16mΩ. Compared to symmetrical two-chip designs, the SQJ940EP offers a 31% lower on-resistance and a more compact footprint. The SQJ942EP, on the other hand, has a low-side on-resistance of 11mΩ and a high-side on-resistance of 22mΩ at 10V.
