The AD8137 is a rail-to-rail output low-cost, fully differential, high-speed amplifier from Analog Devices. It features low noise, low distortion, and wide dynamic range for driving 12-bit ADCs, making it ideal for systems that require low cost and low power. Figure 1 shows the 8-pin SOIC package of the AD8137. How the device works The AD8137 has a common-mode circuit with an internal common-mode reference voltage and a bias-off circuit. The block diagram is shown in Figure 2. The input transconductance portion of the AD8137 is an H-bridge whose output current is mirrored to the high-impedance junctions CP and CN. The output section is a conventional H-bridge driver circuit that drives the junctions +OUT and -OUT with a common transmitter. The AD8137 uses two feedback loops to control differential mode and common mode feedback, respectively. Its differential mode gain is determined by an external resistor, which is the same as a conventional amplifier. The output common-mode voltage is determined by an internal feedback loop controlled by the external Vocm input. This configuration makes it easy to arbitrarily set the common mode voltage of the output without affecting the differential mode gain of the amplifier. In the common-mode feedback loop, the common-mode feedback amplifier ACM is used to sample the output common-mode voltage and then force the output's common-mode voltage to be equal to the VOCM pin input voltage through negative feedback. That is to say, under the action of the feedback loop, the output common-mode voltage changes to the input voltage at Vocm. Normally, the internal bias generator sets Vocm to approximately half the supply voltage, so when the Vocm input is floating, the output common-mode voltage is approximately half of the supply voltage. Since the source bias of the internal bias generator is relatively large, if there is an external supply voltage with a relatively small output impedance, it will be input to the AD8137 instead of Vocm.
