Netflix added PC-side HDR support

After the iPhone X and Galaxy Note 8, Netflix has taken another step forward by introducing HDR support for PCs. Now, users can enjoy high dynamic range (HDR) content through the Netflix app on Windows 10 and the Microsoft Edge browser.

This means that if you're using a Windows 10 system, you can now stream Netflix videos in HDR directly from the app or Edge, provided your hardware meets the requirements.

To enable HDR on a PC, Netflix requires a 7th-generation Intel processor or higher that supports HDR10, along with an Intel integrated GPU or an NVIDIA 1050 or newer graphics card. Unfortunately, AMD GPUs and equivalent CPUs are not yet supported, which limits the number of compatible systems.

Despite these advancements, HDR technology on PCs is still in its early stages. There are only a limited number of HDR-ready displays available, and even fewer apps fully support HDR content. This month, Dell launched its first HDR monitor, and LG is set to announce a new HDR display at CES next month, signaling growing interest in this space.

As more manufacturers invest in HDR technology, we can expect better support and more options for consumers in the near future. For now, though, it's still a niche feature, but one that's definitely worth keeping an eye on.
