Look at the taillights and think that Lincoln has a new SUV. The MX5 standard is equipped with 1.4T and sells 100,000 yuan.
In recent years, Dongfeng has placed significant emphasis on the SUV market, launching numerous new models across its various sub-brands. However, Dongfeng's sales performance in this segment remains relatively modest, with just two offerings in their lineup, both positioned at the higher end of the spectrum. The image here showcases one of their lower-priced offerings, the MX5. Its styling is quite attractive, with a front grille that somewhat resembles that of a Copac. Perhaps due to this resemblance, it hasn't been an easy sell, especially since American-style SUVs haven't caught on much in China.
The car measures 4.72 meters in length, placing it squarely in the mid-size SUV category, comparable to the Tiguan L which, even in its extended-wheelbase version, reaches only about 4.7 meters. The base model comes equipped with a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine producing up to 140 horsepower, offering performance akin to its similarly sized rivals. The top-tier variant features a 2.0-liter engine instead of a 2.0T, likely a strategic choice to keep costs down. Pricing starts at around 103,500 yuan, rising to 135,500 yuan for the highest trim level.
The rear end of the MX5 is particularly noteworthy, featuring taillights that bear a striking resemblance to those of Lincoln models. Seen from behind at night, the MX5 could easily be mistaken for a new Lincoln SUV.
Inside, the cabin reflects a commendable level of quality for a Dongfeng vehicle. Soft plastics and leather upholstery dominate the interior, creating a premium feel. While the design is visually appealing, the technological features lag behind some competitors.
Thanks to its substantial 4.7-meter body, the MX5 offers generous rear legroom. Mid-range trims come with leather seats, exuding elegance, and include practical touches like rear air vents, three headrests, and a central armrest. Despite these appealing attributes, the slightly elevated price point has limited its market appeal, though the product itself is quite strong. Dongfeng’s SUV lineup continues to face challenges in capturing broader consumer interest.
