Documentary of the 3rd National Double Creation Week Shenzhen Conference Hall

On September 15th, the 3rd National Double Creation Week Shenzhen Conference kicked off in Halls 8 and 9 of the Convention and Exhibition Center. Compared to the chaotic scene of "people crowding and squeezing into the venue" from last year, this year's event felt more subdued, with a noticeable drop in visitor numbers. The national Double Creation Week began in 2015, shortly after Premier Li Keqiang introduced the concept of "mass entrepreneurship and innovation." Over the past three years, the slogan has become less familiar. After three years of development, both maker spaces and projects, as well as government support policies, have gradually moved from an "overheated" phase into a more "normalized" state. The bubble is shrinking, especially in Shenzhen, where this trend is most visible. During the 2016 event, drones, robots, and VR startups were the big hits, with nearly 80% of makers focusing on these areas. However, these sectors turned out to be more of a hype than a sustainable trend, with weak actual product shipments. Recently, Qualcomm’s vice president noted that investments in these fields are not yielding good returns, as drones and robots are facing a period of disillusionment, and AR/VR is following a similar path. This cooling effect has led entrepreneurs to rethink their strategies. At the 2017 Double Creation Week, while drone exhibitions, robotics, and AR/VR interactive zones were still present, the number of major projects in these areas had significantly decreased, signaling a gradual reduction of the bubble. In the drone exhibition area, one of the most eye-catching displays was the drone formation show developed by Zero Intelligence and Shenzhen Gaoju Innovation. As dancers performed to dynamic music, more than a dozen drones followed them in synchronized movements, creating a visually stunning "human-machine dance" that drew applause. These drones use various positioning technologies such as visual recognition, GPS, and motion capture, making them suitable for a wide range of performance applications. Additionally, a drone team from Australia also performed live. In China, companies like DJI and Zero Intelligence dominate the UAV market. To gain a foothold, many startups are now targeting industrial applications and drone training. For example, Guangdong Rongsheng Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd. offers drones for power line inspection, maritime monitoring, police operations, firefighting, and forest surveillance. They have partnered with organizations such as the Chinese Armed Police, China Public Security, and the State Grid Companies. Their power line inspection drones help reduce manpower and improve efficiency in complex terrains. Maritime drones can withstand strong winds and provide environmental warnings, while police and fire drones offer advanced features like thermal imaging and automatic obstacle avoidance. Rongsheng also runs a flight academy to train future UAV professionals. Similarly, Global Hawk UAV focuses on agricultural plant protection and power inspection, offering training programs that lead to AOPA drone licenses. In the AR/VR section, the number of startups focused on consumer products has dropped, but companies working on industry applications and content development are gaining traction. Meifang Yunke showcased a full VR+real estate solution, using 3D engines to create virtual renderings for real estate developers. Meanwhile, Shenzhen Quantum Engine specializes in VR game development and industry applications. In the robot area, despite the decline in some sectors, robots remain popular, particularly children's companion robots. One standout was the U.S.-designed "Super Robot," which uses navigation, face recognition, and speech technology to interact with customers, offering a unique retail experience. Overall, the 2017 Double Creation Week reflected a shift from hype to practical application, showing a more mature and focused entrepreneurial landscape in Shenzhen.
