For self-supporting materials, a metal mesh is placed beneath the sample to simulate real-world conditions. Non-self-supporting samples require a support frame to maintain the correct distance from the mesh. 2. **Vertical Burning Test (V-0, V-1, V-2 Classifications)** In this test, the sample is held vertically, and the flame is applied for 10 seconds. The sample must not drip or continue burning after the flame is removed. If melting occurs, the burner is tilted to prevent molten material from falling into the flame. This test is crucial for materials that are commonly used in vertical structures, such as wall panels or insulation. 3. **500W Flame Burning Test (5VA, 5VB Classification)** This method is used for more demanding applications. It involves applying a high-intensity flame multiple times over a period of time. The sample is either a strip or a board, and specific distances and angles are maintained between the flame and the sample. The test ensures that the material can resist prolonged exposure to fire without significant damage or spread. 4. **Vertical Burning Test for Soft Film Samples (VTM-0, VTM-1, VTM-2 Classifications)** For thin or flexible materials, such as films, the sample is wrapped around a rod and held vertically. The flame is applied for short durations, and the material's response is observed. Special attention is given to any dripping or deformation during the test. Adjustments are made to the flame position to ensure accurate results. 5. **Horizontal Burning Test for Foam Materials (HF-1, HF-2, HBF Classifications)** Foam materials are tested using a horizontal setup. The sample is placed on a mesh, and the flame is applied directly to the surface. The test measures how quickly the foam ignites and spreads the flame. This classification is essential for materials used in cushioning, insulation, or packaging. Each test method follows strict guidelines to ensure consistency and reliability. Understanding these classifications helps manufacturers select the right materials for their products, ensuring safety and compliance with industry standards.
