PIN silicon photodiode features and performance

The frequency bandwidth of the PIN photodiode can reach up to 10 GHz. One of its key features is the wide linear output range. This is due to the relationship between the width of the depletion layer and the applied voltage. When the reverse bias voltage increases, the depletion layer widens, which in turn reduces the junction capacitance and expands the bandwidth. This makes the device suitable for high-speed applications.

However, there are some limitations. The resistance of the I (intrinsic) layer is quite high, leading to a relatively small output current. Typically, the output current ranges from a few microamps to several microamps, which may be insufficient for certain high-power applications. Despite this, the PIN photodiode remains widely used in optical communication systems due to its excellent frequency response and linearity.

Performance characteristics of the PIN photodiode are illustrated in the following figure:

GPON OLT

GPON Data Transmission: GPON uses single-fiber bidirectional transmission and adopts WDM technology. Wavelength TX 1490nm, RX 1310nm. Multiple user signals exist on one optical fiber. GPON has a downstream capacity of 2.488 Gb/s and an upstream capacity of 1.244 Gbp/s that is shared among users. Encryption is used to keep each user’s data secured and private from other users. Although there are other technologies that could provide fiber to the home, passive optical networks (PONs) like GPON are generally considered the strongest candidate for widespread deployments. Runtop GPON OLT models: 4 port gpon olt, 8 port gpon olt,16 port gpon olt, single port gpon olt, 2 port gpon olt.
