OSRAM launches LED for mobile fitness, including fitness data tracking and health monitoring

As a result, OSRAM is able to offer its customers a wider range of product choices – with a wide range of sensors. Osram Opto Semiconductors introduced two green LEDs and a Firefly series in a bright red PointLED. The green PointLED has a luminous density of 1800-2800 mcd at a current of 20 milliamps (mA). It provides a better signal and a stronger output on the wearable device than the previous generation. This also means that the series consumes less energy under the same signal and can maintain an additional 50% battery life.

The bright red 660 nm is a special narrowband wavelength that is well suited for this type of application. The luminous density of a green LED is typically 1400 mcd with a wavelength of 525 nm. Both LEDs are available in an ultra-small 0.8mm x 1.6mm x 0.6mm package.

Russell Willner, LED product manager at Osram Opto Semiconductors, said: "With a tightly arranged design, LED lights take up less space on the tracking device. This also allows customers to have more room to design when they wear the device."
