Reason 2: Apple's cooperation object selection error: Apple chose the wrong partner, GTAT itself is the equipment manufacturer of sapphire crystal growth furnace, GTAT to do the long crystal and also processed to the sapphire screen, for GTAT has a short period of time A technical threshold that is difficult to cross. 1) Let GTAT produce sapphire screens, similar to let MOCVD manufacturers VEECO and Aixtron complete the design of MCOVD larger capacity crystal growth furnace within one year, and produce LED epitaxy, which is as difficult as processing high-efficiency LED chips, with short The technical threshold is difficult to cross; 2) Redesigning the sapphire crystal growth furnace of more than 200 kg and stable production, it takes at least one year. It takes more than one year to produce sapphire with the original crystal growth furnace and achieve high quality and high yield. 3) GTAT also needs processing equipment, such as crowbars, cutting equipment, etc., which are devices other than GTAT capability. From the beginning, the difficulty is visible. 4) Technical problems have led to the overall process from crystal growth to screen, and the overall yield is very low, resulting in the inability to quickly provide large-scale, high-quality sapphire screens. The High-tech LED Industry Research Institute believes that the industry has a specialization, and the production of sapphire screens requires industrial chain links from equipment, crystal growth, processing, and synthesis to participate in a rapid breakthrough.

Reason three, the cost problem: High-tech LED industry research institute believes that the cost and price issues are actually a false proposition. The cost of the previous 5.5-inch sapphire mobile phone screen is higher than 300 yuan, and can now be reduced to less than 200 yuan. GLII believes that if mass production is possible, even if the cost of a high-quality qualified sapphire screen is higher than 600 yuan, the possibility of its use is still more than 90%.
