Panorama feels free and positive, Zhengding Visitor Center is about to use VR\AR technology
A few days ago, I came across some exciting news while browsing online. It turns out that the Zhengding Visitor Center, located in Hebei Province, is set to open soon. Known for its rich history and vibrant culture, Zhengding has earned itself the title of a national historic and cultural city, as well as a hub for Chinese folk art. This upcoming visitor center aims to transform Zhengding into a globally recognized tourist destination that emphasizes integration—both internationally and within the local community. The goal is to create a seamless blend of urban and rural experiences, ensuring that both hosts and guests share equally in the journey.
As part of Zhengding County's initiative to embrace smart tourism, the new visitor center will leverage cutting-edge AR (augmented reality) and VR (virtual reality) technologies. These tools will provide immersive panoramic views of key attractions like Longxing Temple and Changle Gate. Visitors will have the unique opportunity to seamlessly transition between the digital and physical realms, exploring different facets of Zhengding's historical charm.
When you step into the South Hall of the visitor center, you'll notice the AR and VR display area dedicated to showcasing Zhengding's smart tourism offerings. Here, state-of-the-art technology allows users to virtually explore the county's significant landmarks and historical artifacts. One standout experience is the VR journey through Longxing Temple. Utilizing advanced 3D modeling techniques, the temple's architecture, lush vegetation, and intricate statues of Buddha come alive in stunning detail. With the help of the HTC VIVE headset, visitors can immerse themselves in these virtual environments, experiencing the grandeur of the temple firsthand.
In addition to Longxing Temple, the visitor center has also reconstructed the Great Hall of the Sixth Division, which collapsed over a century ago, and restored sections of Zhengding's old city walls. These efforts aim to give tourists a holistic view of Zhengding's evolution—from its storied past to its present-day vibrancy, and even glimpses into what lies ahead. By combining these elements, the visitor center hopes to offer an unforgettable journey that bridges time and space, making history come alive in ways never before possible.
It’s clear that Zhengding is not just preserving its heritage but actively innovating to ensure its stories resonate with modern audiences. I can’t wait to visit and see how these technological advancements enhance the travel experience!
