Yin Xiaolin: Introducing Chinese ancient lamps to the world (Photos)

Ancient lamp collector Yin Xiaolin

Entering the moon gate of the ancient lamp collector Yin Xiaolin's small courtyard, the trees are shaded, the bamboo shadows are wandering, the pool is sparkling, and the fish under the blooming lotus flower is swimming. An exquisite slate path under the eaves introduces visitors to the interior.

In the living room, there are ten tall holding cabinets along the wall. Yin Xiaolin said that the oil lamps and candlesticks of the past generations were filled with the past. Now that most of the lamps have been vacated by the Qiandeng Pavilion exhibition in Qiandeng Town, Kunshan City, the vacancies have been filled by books and miscellaneous collections. But there are still hundreds of luminaries that have occupied three of them. According to Yin Xiaolin, these four hundred ancient lamps are because the five exhibition halls of the Qiandeng Museum are full of lights. There is no place to resettle, and they are temporarily staying here.

Yin Xiaolin is a very talkative person. When it comes to lighting collections, it is more like opening a voice. He said that lamps are commonplace in today's minds. This is because there are so many lights around us, so we turn a blind eye and turn a blind eye. But in the eyes of the ancients, the lights are very sacred, and can even be compared with the day and the moon. In fact, we also often use the light to compare the truth. Therefore, the history of the development of lamps is not only the development history of the lamps themselves, but also a history of human pursuit of light contained in the history of civilization.

Asked about the origin of Yin Xiaolin's collection of ancient lamps, he said that the earliest was to engage in miscellaneous collections, about a decade of experience. Later, I met with the old oil lamp, and I just wanted to find a place on the modern desk, in pursuit of a sense of beauty across time and space. I did not expect to see at first sight, the more I collected, the more I couldn’t take it, and finally I gathered a real history of ancient lamps. This is a bit like Buddhism, with ten lights, hundreds of lights, thousands of lights and even endless lights.

The oldest original natural stone lamp in Yin Xiaolin’s collection is in Qiandeng Town, and we have no chance to see it. However, the picture after the light is ignited is exactly the same as the main character in Oracle. Yin Xiaolin tells us that ancient lamps are called masters. After thousands of years of continuous development and evolution, it was finally named after the Han Dynasty. Therefore, the ancients called the emperor the Lord; the most elders in the family, the most authoritative person is the master; the most important thing is the main. These all indicate that the lamps have a very high status in people's minds.

In Yin Xiaolin's collection, a cylindrical stoneware with a small nest caused my curiosity. I asked: Is this also a lamp? He said: Yes, this is the red mountain culture stone lamp unearthed in the Chifeng area of Inner Mongolia. It has a history of 5,000 years. I asked again: How much oil can you put in such a small and shallow stone nest? How long can it be? In addition, how can it be determined that it is a lamp? Yin Xiaolin said: First of all, this stone can stand upright; There are oil pools, as well as the prominent features of the lampposts, etc.; and then according to the exclusion method, gradually negating it as the possibility of other appliances, basically it can be judged that it is a lamp. According to his analysis and speculation, this lamp is not suitable for liquid fuel, but a piece of fresh animal fat is placed directly in the shallow nest. After igniting, the light will gradually roast the fat in the fat meat, and it will not only be convenient, but also a long time.

Song Dynasty terracotta lion lamp

Yin Xiaolin picked up a terracotta lion lamp and said that it was a lamp for the Buddha in the Song Dynasty. He said that in the Tang Dynasty, there were many Buddhist scriptures represented by "Jingde Chuan Lu Lu", collectively referred to as "Five Lanterns Yuan". There are countless Changming Buddha lights in the temples everywhere. Therefore, Buddhism has always regarded the transmission of the law as a light. Although this lion has a big mouth, but does not bring a trace of fierceness, but with a smile, it is to promote the Dharma with compassion. The sharp minions that seem to be inadvertently exposed, naturally show people the dignity of Dharma. Buddhism has been introduced to China since India for more than two thousand years, and the role of the lamp is indelible.

There was a black pottery duck light that was very interesting. It lowered its head and held it in his arms and fell asleep quietly. Yin Xiaolin said: This lantern was unearthed in Xinjiang, with at least two or three thousand years of history. Many of the lamps in Xinjiang during that period were made by boat or waterfowl. This shows that two or three thousand years ago, Xinjiang's water surface was very broad. Ships and waterfowls were very important parts of people's lives, so it was possible to use them as a theme when making lamps. However, due to the development of human struggling, in two or three thousand years, the water-rich Xinjiang has turned into a desert and a Gobi desert. The duckling witnessed this painful history, and it also triggered our deep thoughts.

There is an oil lamp that looks strange. There is a funnel-shaped mouth on the side of its oil pool. I don't know what to do. Yin Xiaolin said: This is the fuel-saving lamp that people often say. The fuel-efficient lamp is a fixture with a mezzanine. Through this funnel, cold water can be injected into the interlayer. This interlayer forms a cooling water jacket under the oil sump. When burning the lamp, the cool water can reduce the oil temperature and reduce the evaporation, so as to achieve the purpose of fuel saving. The fuel-saving lamp is the ancient energy-saving lamp. This cooling water jacket is still used in the cooling and cooling of the metal heat treatment process. In the past, people thought that the fuel-saving lamps were invented during the late Tang and Five Dynasties. Yin Xiaolin also said this in the History and Collection of Ancient Lamps. The reason is that there is a paragraph in the Song Dynasty Lu You's "Old School Notes" is recorded. But now it seems that Lu You’s statement is not enough. Because not long ago, he collected a collection of Han Dynasty green glaze fuel lamps. The emergence of this fuel-saving lamp has pushed forward the history of the invention and use of fuel-saving lamps in China for more than a thousand years.

Listening to Yin Xiaolin’s endless remarks, the window has gradually faded inadvertently. However, we did not turn on the lights, but lit up an oil lamp. In the beautiful light, we have tea, continue to chat, and enjoy it.

About twenty years ago, Yin Xiaolin accidentally found the first old oil lamp in his collection career in the old goods stall. It now looks like the black glazed porcelain lamp in the late Qing Dynasty is very common. But it was this small oil lamp that looked down on him, guiding him to a long road that went brighter and brighter, and made him want to use his life to go up and down.

In 2005, Tianjin Baihua Publishing House published the book "The History and Collection of Ancient Lamps" by Yin Xiaolin. In 2006, Yin Xiaolin's Qiandeng Museum was built in Qiandeng Ancient Town, Kunshan. The Qiandeng Pavilion receives visitors from all over the world, including many national leaders. From the first sacred to the present, more than 1,500 ancient lamps of ancient times, Yin Xiaolin's collection can be described as rich and colorful; and through his years of unremitting research, the traditional culture excavated from these lamps has made him rich. The collection results are spectacular.

Generally speaking, Yin Xiaolin's collection of ancient lamps should be regarded as a complete merit. But he is not satisfied, and is constantly collecting a variety of ancient lamps, and began to study ancient lamps around the world. Yin Xiaolin said that the next step is to introduce Chinese ancient lamps to the world and show the ancient civilization of the Chinese nation.
