Toyota sets up data center company to provide connected car solutions

Toyota Motor Corporation announced the formation of a new data-oriented company called Toyota Connected, which aims to enable technology to improve the daily life of Toyota cars. Based in Plano, Texas, ToyotaConnected has two clear goals – to deliver unique services and to provide data analysis to groups such as companies and governments to support other product developments. To achieve these goals, Toyota and Microsoft are working to further expand its connected automotive solutions.

Although this sounds very vague, Toyota offers some concrete examples that companies want to achieve. Facial recognition allows the car to "see" the owner toward the vehicle, identify the bag he has picked up and automatically open the trunk. The vehicle-to-vehicle technique alerts the driver to a road blockage in front of him and immediately provides a diversion plan.

What excites me the most is that it can solve problems related to parking. Suppose you drive to the airport and need to find a location close to the terminal. Toyota Connected's service identifies parking spaces in spacious spaces and directs you to this parking location.

There are many other features besides parking. Ultimately, Toyota Connected wants to extend its services to multiple areas, including smart city integration, fleet services, health and safety. Over time, it is inevitable that other automakers will launch similar services, although some companies have already taken the lead.
