Russia refuses iPad appearance patent application

The Russian Patent and Trademark Office once again rejected Apple’s request to register an iPad design patent.

The Russian Patent and Trademark Office stated that the design of the Apple iPad is not the most primitive and distinctive design. The appearance of the Apple iPad is already a trend for modern communication equipment produced by different manufacturers, and there will only be differences in dimensions, key layouts, and so on. Therefore, it is not worth being applied for as a patent.

Apple applied for iPad design patents in Russia two years ago. In April this year, the Russian Patent and Trademark Office rejected the application for the first time. Apple later argued that the iPad has rounded corners, a smooth front panel, and a round button at the bottom of the screen. It has a very distinctive feature and can “immediately attract the attention of consumers”.

Apple in Russia and the treatment in the United States in sharp contrast, not long ago, Apple has just obtained the iPad design patent in the United States.
