Geotextile Thickness Gauge Installation and Testing Procedures 1. Instrument Installation: 1.1 After unpacking the instrument, use a clean soft cloth to wipe away any wood chips or dust. Place it on a work surface at an appropriate height, and place a soft and hard cushion under each of the four corners to ensure even support and stability. 1.2 Adjust the bottom corner screws to center the bubble in the leveler, ensuring that all four feet make solid contact with the rubber sheet beneath. 1.3 Place the accessory box that came with the instrument nearby for easy access during testing. 2. Testing Procedure: 2.1 The operator should follow the relevant standard testing methods to prepare the sample correctly, ensuring it meets the required conditions for accurate results. 2.2 Hold the cam handle with your right hand and turn it counterclockwise to lift the pressure plate and the weight attached to its right side. 2.3 Remove the replaceable presser foot from under the pressure plate and select the appropriate type based on the thickness of the sample being tested. For example: 0.5 mm – suitable for geomembrane testing, 5 mm – suitable for geotextile composite materials between 0.5–5 mm in thickness, 10 mm – suitable for materials between 5–10 mm, 15 mm – suitable for materials between 10–12 mm. 2.4 Clean the reference plate and the presser foot surface with a soft cloth, then reposition the presser foot on the reference plate. Ensure the triangular blade on the presser foot aligns with the corresponding groove under the pressure plate. 2.5 Select and install the dial gauge (note: it is self-matching). Insert it into the watch frame hole, and gently lower it until the upper surface of the dial touches the top of the presser foot. Adjust the position by about 0.1–0.2 mm, then lock the nut. Zero the dial or clear the reading before starting. 2.6 Gently lift the presser foot, place the sample between the reference plate and the presser foot, then lower the presser foot to apply a pressure of 2 kPa ± 0.01 kPa. Start the stopwatch and allow the sample to be under pressure for 30 seconds. Then read the dial indicator value. 2.7 Repeat the process for the specified number of samples to complete the test. 3. Choosing Different Test Pressures: 3.1 For testing under 20 kPa, repeat steps 3.2.6. After completing this step, hang one weight on the hanging ring on the right side of the pressure plate. Turn the cam handle clockwise with your right hand until the triangular blade of the presser foot fully supports the weight. Measure the time, apply pressure for 30 seconds, and record the dial reading. 3.2 For testing under 200 kPa, repeat step 3.2.6. Attach both the 1 kg and 2 kg weights to the hanging ring on the right side of the pressure plate. Turn the cam handle clockwise until the triangular blade supports the full weight. Apply pressure for 30 seconds, then record the dial gauge reading. 4. All test results must be manually recorded and calculated. The final test results and reports should comply with the requirements of the applicable test method standards and production process guidelines.
