Bosch Sensortec has introduced a new high-performance barometric MEMS sensor: BMP388 is very suitable for height tracking in consumer electronic drones, wearable devices, smart homes and other applications.

Omni-directional drone sensor solution

BMP388 ensures excellent altitude stability for UAVs, and accurate air pressure measurement can provide core altitude data to improve flight stability and landing accuracy. The new air pressure sensor is part of Bosch Sensortec's comprehensive drone sensor solution, which includes the BMI088 IMU for precise steering and the BMM150 geomagnetic sensor for heading data.

The recently released BMI088 is a 6-axis IMU consisting of a three-axis 16-bit acceleration sensor with excellent performance and a three-axis 16-bit gyroscope that has been verified by the automotive industry standards. UAVs can take full advantage of the excellent vibration suppression and robustness of the IMU, as well as unparalleled stability under dynamic conditions, such as sudden temperature fluctuations. BMM150 is a low-power, low-noise three-axis digital geomagnetic sensor, specially designed for compass applications. Due to its stable performance in a wide temperature range, the geomagnetic sensor is particularly suitable for determining the precise heading of the UAV.

In addition to drones, BMP388 also provides a very flexible all-in-one solution that can improve the accuracy of navigation and fitness applications in wearable devices and smart homes, for example, by using altitude data to improve GPS accuracy or Determine the floors in the building. It can also improve the calorie counting accuracy of wearable devices and mobile devices, for example by identifying whether a person is uphill or downhill when using a pedometer.

Simple to use and highly accurate

With an excellent temperature coefficient compensation (TCO) of 0.75 Pa/K between -20°C and 65°C, BMP388 can further improve the accuracy of height measurement in a larger temperature range. The new sensor has an attractive price-performance ratio, low power consumption, high design flexibility, and a compact LGA package with a size of only 2.0 x 2.0 x 0.75mm³.

FIFO and interrupt function can realize simple access and storage of data. At a frequency of 1 Hz, this reduces power consumption to 2.7 μA during the entire operation, while making the sensor easier to use. In the temperature range of 25°C to 40°C, tests in the real environment have confirmed that the relative accuracy of the device can reach +/- 0.08 hPa (+/- 0.66 m). In the temperature range of 25°C to 40°C, the absolute accuracy between 900 and 1100 hPa is +/- 0.40 hPa.
