Fuzhou Rockchip Releases Dual A9 Core Cheap Tablet Platform

As a representative of low-cost tablet PC SoC providers, Fuzhou Rockchip today officially announced the company's next-generation low-cost Android tablet solution, the RK30xx platform, based on the 40nm LP process.

The RK30xx platform includes a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor with a maximum frequency of up to 1.4 GHz; an ARM Mali-400 MP four-module GPU with support for OpenGL ES 1.1/2.0. In addition, the platform supports common DDR3 and DDR2 memory in addition to the common LPDDR2 in the mobile sector.

Rockchip and ARM claim that the tablet based on the RK30xx platform supports Full HD 1080p resolution H. 264/VP8 format video encoding / decoding, embedded HDMI 1.4a standard video output, support for 3D display solutions, dual screen and dual cameras. Android tablets using Rockchip RK30xx platform will be available from March 2012.
